Two years have passed since conman Philip Mason, who posed as the superior and abbot of the Christian Center for Peace and Life in Krammerton, Mississippi, scammed the late Sandra Weaver out of thousands of dollars before she took her life. Sandra’s grieving widow, banker Blake Weaver, thwarted Mason’s attempt to transport his ill-gotten funds out of the country, though he managed to escape a law enforcement dragnet and flee to Mexico. Now the Chief Deputy Sheriff at the Chatawa County Sheriff’s Office, Blake receives a tip from a confidential informant that huge quantities of fentanyl-laced Xanax are about to hit the local market. That informant is none other than Greg Lawson, the man Philip Mason entrusted to help him smuggle the large sums of money Mason had bilked from victims like Sandra Weaver. Can Blake possibly trust Lawson? An electrifying tale of revenge and redemption set in a close-knit Southern town, The Reckoning returns Blake and his new wife, Carrie Parks, from Scott Lenoir’s sizzling debut, The Amendment, and introduces young Daniel Eddings, a young IT whiz who, like Blake, is a recovering alcoholic. While Blake loves Daniel like a son, can he trust him to stay sober during the investigation when Blake needs him the most? And does Blake realize too late who may have arranged for the massive shipment of drugs to hit town, and why?
